It’s the season for fresh garden asparagus, and there are many ways to fix it. This simple recipe is my favorite way of making it, and it takes no time at all.
Do you have fresh asparagus growing in your garden right now? If you answered yes, now is a great time to experiment with different asparagus recipes. There are so many delicious ways to fix asparagus, and if you’re looking for an easy recipe that takes just minutes to make for a weeknight dinner side, this is it.
Easy Ingredients

Fresh asparagus – Make sure to use the freshest asparagus you can find at the grocery store, unless you’re lucky enough to grow your own. Try to find asparagus that’s not too thin. If it’s thin, it will become mushy and stringy.
Fresh lemon juice – A great addition… it enhances the flavors.
Freshly grated parmesan – Parmesan is such a great complement to asparagus. However, it is a salty cheese, so taste the asparagus before getting carried away with the salt in this recipe.
Olive oil – This keeps asparagus from drying out in the oven.
Salt & pepper – Shake salt and pepper over the asparagus before baking, but don’t salt again until you taste it after the parmesan is added. The parmesan is salty itself.
Garlic – Optional, but I like it. If you’re not a garlic fan, omit it.
Tips for this Recipe
- Try to use parmesan stalks that are uniform in size so they get done at the same time.
- Whether you’re buying asparagus or picking it from your garden, make sure to pick stalks that are not thin, but also not too big. They should be bright green and firm.
- Break off the woody white ends of the asparagus. It should easily snap at the place where you need to break it off.
How to Make

- Break or cut the woody end off the asparagus. Wash and pat it dry. Place it in a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle the olive oil over the top, then sprinkle with the salt an pepper. Bake for ten minutes and remove from oven.
- Using your fingers, loosely sprinkle the wet garlic over the asparagus. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of parmesan over the asparagus, then squeeze the lemon juice over it. Bake for 2-3 minutes until the asparagus is crisp on the outside, but tender on the inside. Remove from oven.
- Sprinkle the remaining parmesan over the asparagus and serve immediately.

Roasted asparagus is an excellent side for just about any meal. I like to serve it with Chicken Alfredo or Meatloaf. My grandkids even like it with the parmesan cheese sprinkled over it.
