Description

A brown sugar glaze is a perfect finish to this fork-tender Perfect Homestyle Meatloaf. It’s super easy to make and the perfect comfort food.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Meatloaf

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
  • 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 medium onion, diced small
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2/3 cup finely crushed saltine crackers or store bought bread crumbs

For the Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 cup light or dark brown sugar, packed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

For the Meatloaf

  1. Spray an oblong baking dish, such as an 8 X 11 inch, with non stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl, (I use my hands). Do not over mix, or meat will become tough when baked.
  3. Shape mixture into a loaf and place in prepared baking dish and set aside.

For the Glaze

  1. Combine ketchup, pepper and brown sugar in a small pan. Stir and heat over medium heat, just until sugar has dissolved.
  2. Brush about 1/2 of the sauce over the top of the meatloaf mixture. Reserve the remaining sauce for brushing over the baked meatloaf or serving on the side.
  3. Place meatloaf on a middle oven rack and bake for about one hour or until meat temperature reaches 160 degrees on a meat thermometer. Allow meatloaf to rest for about ten minutes before slicing.
  4. Brush with additional sauce if desired or serve on the side.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers.
